The Bold Voice of J&K

Wait and watch

Dear Editor,
It appears to be a far cry to talk of a cashless society in a country where connectivity is not available at many places, 70 per cent of the population lives in rural areas, 40 per cent of people are uneducated, and the Internet speed is 3.5 mbps against over 20 mbps in other countries. In developed countries, such as America, Australia, Germany, cashless transaction is 46 per cent, 30 per cent, and 14 per cent, respectively, as against cash transaction of 46 per cent, 65 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively. While it may be a good initiative, yet a cashless economy might be a pipe dream. The achievement figures would be before us in a few months, so let us wait and watch.
Ram Gopal,
Kud
