Vishal’s solitary goal helps Young Rovers to clinch SSB football trophy

JAMMU: Despite playing with ten players for last 20 minutes of the game, Young Rovers on Friday clinched the thriller beating fighting Param Football Club (Param FC) one goal to nil (1-0) in the Inter-District Football Tournament, organised by 66th Bn of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Mini Stadium, Parade here on Thursday. Earlier, in the summit clash, both Young Rovers and Param Football Club played a brilliant game to win the coveted trophy. The first half of the match ended in draw despite some powerful attempts by both the teams.
Referee showed one yellow card each to Young Rovers and Param FC player and a red card to Young Rovers player for foul play in the second half of the match. The winning goal for Young Rovers was scored by Vishal Angral.
In the closing ceremony, Additional Director General, SSB, Force Headquarter New Delhi, S.S Deswal was the Chief Guest, who earlier declared the final match open by releasing balloons and pigeons. The Chief Guest was accompanied by Ashok Kumar Singh Inspector General SSB.
DIG Srinagar R.K Bhumbla, DIG Jammu Manvendra Negi, Assistant Sports Force Headquarter P.S Bhist, Staff Officer and Organising Secretary of the Tournament, N,S Negi, Commandant, S.B Chand, Commandant, V.S Jamwal and Deputy Commandant Pardeep were among the prominent officers present on the occasion.
While interacting with the media persons, S.S. Deswal informed that SSB is acting as facilitator to promote football in the region to encourage the youths to this game.
“The aim of organising football tournament across various districts of J and K was to reach out the communities, to encourage people’s participation, sharpen the sporting skills and them in good physique, inculcate and develop team spirit and healthy competition among players,” he said adding that football is the sport which teaches us to work in team and achieve miracles.
A.K Singh informed about various activities carried out by SSB under Civic Action Programme in the Jammu and Kashmir State during the last three years.
In the prize distribution, the Chief Guest gave away a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and a trophy to winner Young Rovers team and Rs 40,000 and a trophy to runner up Param FC team.
The best player of the tournament award was presented to Mohit Chouhan of Young Rovers while top scorer of the tournament wasrd went to Ishan Gupta of Young Rovers and best goalkeeper award was won by Thappa Club Udhampur. All the players were also given mementoes. JKFA members, referees, grounds man were also awarded with honorarium, gifts and mementoes.
