KATHUA: Miffed over the wretched attitude of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, the villagers of Chann Rorian and other adjoining villages staged protest blocking National Highway at Chann Rorian for more than an hour in support of their demand, on Thursday.
There was a strong resentment amongst the villagers as they are deprived of water facility for last few months and despite repeated requests neither the concerning department nor the administration bothered to sort out their hardships.
Lamenting the departmental officials, Naib Sarpanch K.R Rain and Pardeep Sharma said that for the last four months, thousands of people from Chann Rorian and other areas are struggling for drinking water due to dissimilar reasons.
He said neither the government nor the local representatives bother to listen to the grievances of public. Alleging the anti-public attitude of the PHE Department officials, he further said that despite repeated pleas they do not bother to mitigate the grievances of the public.
“It is mismanagement of the department officials that on the very next day the motor went off road making the people to return to previous situation”, he miffed.
Another protester Roshan Kumar said since independence we are struggling for the facility of safe drinking water. There is no proper arrangement for drinking water supply in the Kandi belt. “The tube-wells in the villages do not work especially during the summers. Presently also there are damaged motors lying at different tube-wells.
They said that they spend money from their pockets to purchase water from private tankers. Previously the tankers of concerned department used to supply water, but now they do not come to villages. “The people of the village are not so sound and we are not in the condition of buying water again and again,” he miffed.
The protesters further alleged department officials in order to fill their pockets get the motors repaired with low quality work, following which they go off road repeatedly. “It is simply wastage of public revenue and we demand from the government to make an inquiry into the matter so that the public exchequer could be saved”, he advocated.
