Via-e-mail Dowry harassment
Dear Editor,
Considering the number of cases where women misuse Section 498A to harass their husbands and in-laws, what the Supreme Court has ruled is correct . This is not to say that some husbands or families do not ask for dowry. Even today we find many cases of dowry harassment which unfortunately come to light mostly after the woman commits suicide. There are also many cases that lie unreported. But it is also true that there are several false cases which are filed to extract money from the in-laws. We need to completely overhaul dowry prohibition laws in tune with the present situation.
