VAJK celebrates World Volleyball Day

JAMMU: Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir (VAJK) on Monday organised a function to celebrate the World Volleyball Day at MA Stadium, here.

The day marked with holding of exhibition matches, followed by interaction and guest lectures on the importance of sports, Yoga and physical fitness.
The gathering was told that on this day, the foundation of the game was laid way back in 1895 by William.G.Morgan, a Physical Education Director at YMCA in Holyoke ,Massachuetts in USA. Originally called as ‘MintoNette’, the game renamed as Volleyball.
However, in India Volleyball introduced in in 1921 from Madras YMCA by Physical Education Teachers (PETs) that is why, Tamil Nadu has a rich history in Volleyball with Madras Volleyball Association came into existence in the year 1950.
Divisional Sports Officer Jammu of the J&K Sports Council (JKSC), Sat Pal Singh was the special guest, who exhorted the youth to tke active part in the sports.
Among other prominent present were Kuldeep Magotra (CEO), HS Gill, Ramesh Sharma (treasure), Veena Kumari, Manpreet Kaur, Seema Sharma, Subhash Shastri, Akbar Ali, Prateek Kumar and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
