US Diplomat calls on PDP leader

JAMMU: Considering the fact that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could evolve as the biggest political force in Jammu and Kashmir after the ongoing Assembly elections, Chad A. Thornberry, First Secretary (Political) in the Embassy of USA in India called on senior PDP leader, Ved Mahajan to discuss the agenda and programmes of PDP here on Wednesday.
In the meeting, Thornberry and Ved Mahajan discussed political situation in Jammu and Kashmir. They also discussed various aspects including self-rule document presented by the PDP for resolving all problems of Jammu and Kashmir.
PDP leader also briefed US envoy about election manifesto of PDP which was aimed at solving problems of all the regions and sub-regions of the State.
During the meeting, PDP leader informed the visiting US team that PDP is emerging as biggest political force in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that like Kashmir Valley, people of Jammu region are also coming forward to support PDP as this party has earned credibility and faith of the people due to its commitment.
Besides political situation, they also discussed the socio-political aspects of the State, especially the situation arising out of floods, its aftermath and the timely measures taken by the Government for relief and rehabilitation.
Thornberry informed Ved about the efforts of the US Embassy through the Ministry of Home Affairs for the welfare of the flood affected victims.
Thornberry is on two days visit to J and K. On Tuesday, Thornberry had meeting with some political leaders of Jammu. The meeting was also attended by Dinesh Dubey, Political Advisor Embassy of USA in India.
