M K StalinMadurai: DMK Leader M K Stalin today stressed the need for unity among the opposition political parties and party cadres in Tamil Nadu to bring down the “non functioning” AIADMK government.

“Unity among political parties and party cadres is necessary to bring down the non-functioning AIADMK government, which has not kept any of its assurances, including making Tamil Nadu a power surplus state. Major companies have left the state,” he said.

Stalin alleged that the state government had destroyed important schemes like the comprehensive Cauvery water drinking scheme for Ramanathapuram district, implemented at a cost of Rs 616 crore.

He claimed that they had also opposed the Sethu Samuthram canal project, considered very important for the development of the southern districts. “The ruling AIADMK government has put a hurdle in implementation of the SSCP that would have helped the state develop better,” he said

Stalin alleged that no proper inquiry was carried out into the suicide of Muthukumarasamy, executive engineer of the agricultural department, in February.

“The IAS official probing the granite scam was being threatened, while cases were being filed against the press,” the DMK leader said.

He alleged that 84 lakh persons registered in employment exchanges in the last four years were yet to get jobs.

Stalin also alleged that there were irregularities in PWD and highway projects while floating tenders.
