Unemployment rate in J&K falls to 14.8 percent: Report

SRINAGAR: India’s unemployment rate rose to 8.30% in December, the highest in 16 months, from 8.00% in the previous month, data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) showed on December 31.
The CMIE data further showed that the urban unemployment rate rose to 10.09 percent in December from 8.96 percent in the previous month, while the rural unemployment rate slipped to 7.44 percent from 7.55 percent.
While as, there is big relief for Jammu and Kashmir as unemployment rate falls down from 23.9 percent to 14.8 percent .Jammu and Kashmir administration is taking enormous steps to tackle the unemployment and this is well known fact that in Jammu and Kashmir government job is the first priority for a majority of educated youth but unfortunately, these jobs are scarce . Now the private sector is growing and big investments and plans are under process, the government has opened doors for investors and that is showing physical progress on the ground.
As per the CMIE, J&K’s unemployment rate recorded 14.8 percent in December which is a big relief for locals as well as for administration.
This leaves a path that how can we tackle the growing unemployment. Last year the J&K Government has introduced a slew of initiatives to woo youngsters towards self-employment where they will be their own bosses and also contribute towards job creation in the UT of J&K.
In order to provide a platform for holistic implementation of all youth engagement and outreach initiatives, the government of Jammu and Kashmir UT has rolled out a pioneering initiative – Mission Youth.
Mumkin-Livelihood Generation Scheme, Under the Mumkin scheme, unemployed youth are facilitated to procure small commercial vehicles, on a subsidized basis, to establish a sustainable livelihood line in the transport sector.
As a special incentive under this scheme, Mission Youth is contributing Rs 0.80 lakh or 10 percent of the On-Road Price of Vehicle (whichever is Minimum) per beneficiary and an equivalent amount is also contributed by the vehicle manufacturers.
Spurring Entrepreneurship Initiative scheme is centred on the theme Youth Enterprise with Innovation (YouWiN)/ Champion for Innovation program for encouraging young entrepreneurs’ especially young women towards innovations in various enterprises.
This scheme seeks to foster high growth entrepreneurship through business plan competitions
Tejaswani scheme is aimed to promote entrepreneurship among young women. The scheme envisages giving financial assistance uptoRs 5 lakhs to young women for setting up gainful self-employment ventures, suited to their skills, training, aptitude and local conditions.
Mission Youth has also rolled out a special financial assistance program for youth in distress. Financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh can be provided under the scheme to youth in distress for setting up gainful self-employment units .
Scheme for Dental Professionals, the scheme aims to address unemployment in dental sector by providing customized financial support to professionals for setting up dental clinics. An amount of Rs 8 lakh shall be provided as financial assistance under this scheme for setting up a dental clinic.
In the pilot phase, 200 clinics under the scheme are to be set up with the targeted employment of 400 doctors and 400 dental technicians.
Mission Youth, J&K has rolled out a specially designed community-oriented livelihood generation scheme for the youth of J&K under the name of ‘Rise Together. The programme envisions promoting community-based entrepreneurship optimally to generate jobs, and income and promote the spirit of social service among new-age young entrepreneurs of Jammu & Kashmir.
Meanwhile Mahesh Vyas, managing director of the CMIE, said the rise in the unemployment rate was “not as bad as it may seem,” as it came on top of a healthy increase in the labour participation rate, which shot up to 40.48 percent in December, the highest in 12 months.
The unemployment rate had declined to 7.2 percent in the July-September quarter compared to 7.6 percent in the previous quarter, according to separate quarterly data compiled by state run National Statistical Office (NSO) and released in November.In December, the unemployment rate rose to 37.4 percent in the northern state of Haryana, followed by 28.5 percent in Rajasthan and 20.8 percent in Delhi, CMIE data showed.
