JAMMU: An under-trial facing murder charges on Tuesday gave slip to his escorting police team and fled from the Janipur Court complex. He along with four other accused had been brought to appear in a murder case against them before the Court of 2nd Additional Judge Jammu.
Taking serious note of the escape, SSP Udhampur Mohd Suleman Choudhary has placed an ASI and three cops, who were accompanying the accused, under suspension.
“All the accused were without handcuff as they were exempted as per the court orders,” police said.
“Taking advantage of this, Rahil managed to flee from the court,” said police, adding all the Nakas were strengthened to arrest him.
Sources said that Rahil might have fled under a conspiracy hatched by some of his acquaintances. His co-accused in the murder case when questioned expressed their ignorance about any of his plans to flee from the court complex.
FIR under Section 223, 224 CrPC has been registered at Police Station Janipur. The murder case was on final stage and the accused Rahil Chandel was apprehending that he may get severe punishment. So he managed to flee, police said.
Rahil Chandel was arrested along with five others for their involvement in the murder of Sanjay Jandial, resident of Sailan Talab, Udhampur in 2o09. Initially investigated by the local police, the case was transferred to Crime Branch.
The Crime Branch, Jammu had produced a chargesheet in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Udhampur against five accused Ankush Pandoh, Adil Shah, Rahil Chandel, Rajesh Pandoh and Vimal Singh, all residents of Udhampur. They were lodged in  Udhampur Jail. However, the case was later transferred to Sessions Court Jammu on the request of the accused, police said. On each court hearing they were transported to Jammu by Udhampur police team.
Sanjay Jandial of Sailan Talab in Udhampur was shot at and stabbed inside a shop in Chabutra Bazaar on May 2, 2009 by Ankush Pandoh and other accomplices over some business rivalry.
