JAMMU: Boxers from lesser popular districts of Udhampur and Kathua along with talented Poonch impressed with youngsters boxers from these places performed well to reach the advanced stages on day-two of the ongoing J&K UT Boxing Championship, organised by J&K Amateur Boxing Association at J&K Police Sports Complex, Gulshan Ground, here today.
The enthusiasm and fighting spirit among those budding boxers was quite evident from their passion for the competition and support for those team mates.
Most of the weight categories across different age groups reached the semifinals and final stages with technical experts decided to hold medal bouts from tomorrow at 9 am onwards.
“The finals in a couple of important weight categories will be followed by the valedictory function of the three-day championship tomorrow. The technical penal had a tough time to complete the laid down schedule today, so they deserve appreciation for the achieving the targets,” informed organising secretary of the championship, Rajan Sharma.
The technical penal for the championship comprised Anil Wadhera (J&K Sports Council), Inder Singh (BSF), Mushtaq Ahmed (Poonch), Harinder Pal (University of Jammu), Gautam (Jammu), Sujat Pathan (J&K Police), Khalida Bano (J&K Police), Aman Sangral (J&K Police) and Sandeep Singh (Ramban).

Semifinals: MEN: SUB-JUNIOR: 33-35 kg: Pranav Kumar, Udhampur beat Ahsan-ul-Haq, Poonch. 37-40 kg: Talib Hussain, Kathua beat Taqeeb Ahmed, Poonch. 43-46 kg: Sharb Ayaz, Poonch beat Mohd Ateeb, Srinagar. 46-49 kg: Ramzan Wani, Baramulla beat Mohd Afzal, Poonch. JUNIOR: 54-57 kg: Mohd Manan, Poonch beat Rohit Kumar, Udhampur. 50-32 kg: Mayank Chettri, Jammu beat Dhiraj Sharma, Jammu. YOUTH: 54-57 kg: Aaqib Khan, Srinagar beat Aman Bhau, Jammu. 52-54 kg: Sunil Kumar, Jammu beat Vishal Kohli, Samba.
