UDHAMPUR: Udhampur Tehsil claimed Overall Championship while Ram Nagar won runner-up trophy in the Udhampur District Indian Style Wrestling Championship organized by Udhampur District Indian Style Wrestling Association under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at Subash Stadium, here on Saturday.
The Championship sponsored by J and K State Sports Council was held under the overall supervision of President Udhampur District Indian Style Wrestling Association Sunil Badyal and General Secretary Om Parkash Verma.
Forty three wrestlers participated in seven Weight Categories of 50Kg, 55Kg, 61Kg, 67Kg, 75Kg, 85Kg, and 96Kg in the event.
Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council Jammu as also and Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the Chief Guest who presented medals, certificates to the winners in presence of Guest of Honour, Vice-Chairman Udhampur District Sports Council Rahil Gupta and Incharge Subash Stadium, Satish Chopra. Director competition, NIS Wrestling Coach Mulk Raj Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme, while vote of thanks was presented by General Secretary of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Bansi Lal Tidyal. The bouts were officiated by Tulinder Kumar, Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, Laxhman Singh Katoch, Lochan Singh, Pankaj Sadotra and Sat Paul.
Shiv Kumar appealed to the wrestlers to take sports as a career option and not just as recreational activity. He had a special word of appreciation for the members of the organizing committee which included Sunil Badyal, Om Parkash Verma, Satish Kumar, Pankaj Sadotra, Hans Raj and Tulinder Kumar.
Prominent persons present on the occasion included chairman Lord Shiva-Paravati caves Shrine Moungri Development Board and Dy. Chief warden Swatanter Dev Kotwal, chairman Happy Model Higher Secondary School Udhampur Vikram Gulati, Vikram Salathia, Sunil Salathia, Contractor Balwan Singh, Amar Singh and Deep Singh (Pinka).
Final Result: 50Kg: Kuldeep Kumar (Chenani) 1st, Sushil Singh (Ram Nagar) 2nd and Sunil Singh (Ram Nagar) and Jeevan Kumar (Udhampur), joint 3rd. 55Kg: Mohd. Arif (Ram Nagar) 1st, Sanju (Chenani) 2nd and Kirpal Singh (Udhampur) and Babishan (Chenani) joint 3rd. 61 Kg: Kaka Ram (Udhampur) 1st, Mustaq Mohd (Udhampur) 2nd and Mohd. Ashraf (Udhampur) and Shoukat Ali (Moungri), joint 3rd. 67Kg: Mohd. Saleem (Udhampur) 1st, Riaz Ahmed (Udhampur) 2nd and Munish Kumar (Udhampur) and Shakeel Mohd. (Udhampur), joint 3rd. 75Kg: Sunil Kumar (Udhampur) 1st, Vijay Singh (Moungri) 2nd and Mousin Khan (Udhampur) and Vijay Kumar (Ram Nagar), joint 3rd. 85 Kg: Mustafa Kamal (Basant Garh) 1st and Gagan Sharma (Ram Nagar) 2nd. 96Kg: Varun Sharma (Udhampur) 1st and Dheeraj Singh (Udhampur) 2nd.
