Two smugglers held with leopard skin

RAMBAN: Police on Friday arrested two smugglers and recovered leopard skin from their possession.
According to report, District Special Branch, Ramban garnered information regarding smuggling of wild animal’s skin from Gool area to European countries where lion or leopard skin rugs are in great demand. Accordingly, a special police team from Police Station Ramban led by Sub Inspector Ankuj Kumar laid a trap and stopped a vehicle for checking. During checking, police apprehended two smugglers who were in possession of animal skin, probably a leopard, which was over eight feet in length and worth Rs. 6 lakh in the international market.
The smugglers have been identified as Shahnawaz, son of Abdul Latief Shan and Qadir Ahmed, son of Gulam Abbas Gani both residents of Gool, who came to Ramban town for allegedly selling the leopard skin. However, they were arrested before striking a deal. A case vide FIR No. 157/2016 under Sections 8/49 and A/51 Wild Life Protection Act has been lodged at Police Station Ramban. The arrest has been made by the police party under the guidance of Mohd Rafiq, DySP Headquarters Ramban, Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary, Additional SP Ramban and Randeep Kumar, SSP, Ramban.
