Two Mumbai-based Charas smugglers acquitted

JAMMU: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu R.S Jain acquitted Rajjak Sheikh, son of late Usmann Shekh, resident of H.No.A-16 Asha Krishan Cooperative Society Ltd., Aslafa Link Road, Saki Naka Andheri East Mumbai and Mohammad Naushad, son of Barkat Tullha Qureshi, resident of Bheem Nagar Karuna Nagar, Saki Naka East Mumbai who were arrested by the Narcotic Control Board (NCB), as the evidence on record presented by the prosecution was not sufficient to bring home the guilt of the accused for the offence punishable under Section 8/20 of NDPS Act, for which they were charged.
According to the case that on 30th September, 2012, information was received from reliable source by Satish Kumar Sharma, Intelligence Officer of NCB Jammu that accused Rajjak Sheikh and Mohd Noushad would be transporting drugs (Charas) from Kashmir Valley to Jammu and are likely to stay at New Laxmi Hotel, Chand Nagar, Jammu. During the search at the hotel NCB team on 1st October, 2012 recovered a maroon bag containing two plastic packets and on opening the packets ten pieces of blackish brown coloured material was recovered from one packet and twelve pieces of blackish brown coloured material were recovered from the same packet. All the pieces were tested by the Drug detection kit and were found positive for charas and the same was found to be weighing 3.012 kg and after completion of investigation challan was presented.
Court held that the evidence was not sufficient to bring home the guilt under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, for which they were charged. Accused Rajjak Sheikh and Mohd Naushad are, therefore, acquitted. JNF
