Training held on quality control of Biologicals

NOIDA: National Institute of Biologicals (NIB), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology Government of India organised three weeks long ‘National Skill Development and Hands-on-Training on Quality Control of Biologicals’ programme for M.Sc Biotechnology students of Universities of Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and North Eastern region including Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Assam (Silchar) here at NIB.
Around forty students of aforementioned university participated in the training programme. The training programme was inaugurated by K.B Aggarwal, Additional Secretary (Foods and Drugs), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Dr. R.P Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Dr. Surinder Singh, Director National Institute of Biologicals, Noida were also present.
The objective of the training was to develop and enhance analytical skills and technical knowledge of participants in Quality Control of Biologicals through hands-on-training in areas of Biotherapeutics, Vaccines and Diagnostics in techniques like HPLC, Electrophoresis, ELISA, Bacterial Endotoxin testing, cell culture aseptic handling, subculturing and maintenance, cell line based potency assays, animal handling, use of laboratory animals in QC testing of Biologicals and to create awareness about global scenario of drug testing. This training programme has been initiated keeping in mind Prime Minister’s Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) which emphasized on skill development.
