Traffic resumes on Jammu-Srinagar national highway
Jammu: Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which was suspended due to heavy rainfall last night, resumed this morning though there were some disruptions due to shooting stones.
“As a precautionary measure, we had to suspend traffic on Jammu-Srinagar national highway last night. However, it was resumed from morning,” SSP Traffic, National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal told PTI.
While all vehicles can ply from Jammu towards Srinagar, only passenger vehicles were allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu, he said.
“Landslides and shooting stones continue to disrupt the movement of traffic, but we have deployed adequate number of men and machinery to clear the highway,” Kotwal said.
“No vehicle will be allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar after 11:30 AM. The movement of vehicles ahead of Udhampur would be restricted after 1:00 PM,” he said.
Meanwhile, Batote-Kishtwar national highway was also closed down due to shooting stones and landslides at several places.
“The Batote-Kishtwar national highway was blocked due to landslides and shooting stones at Assar, Kora Pani, Dansal Gatsu, Prem Nagar and Kandini,” a traffic police officer said.
