JAMMU: Traffic Police Rural Jammu in its continuing efforts for smooth traffic regulation in the rural districts of Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch Districts has taken strict action against the traffic violators.
Shaheen Wahid, Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Jammu, said that a number of wrongly parked vehicles have been lifted from various places in Samba and Rajouri Districts respectively. She said that wrong parking is a big problem in these districts and the concerned district administrations have also taken note of the problem and will be shortly dissolved.
She said that the Traffic Police Rural is also spreading traffic safety awareness among the general public through various methods like placards, banners, street shows, audio visuals using social media including Whatsapp and Facebook and also on spot practical demonstrations. Besides, a number of traffic safety awareness programmes have also been done in a number of schools, crowded places, with Umeed cluster groups heads consisting of rural women etc. to bring awareness among the people.
She said that unless and until there is knowledge and awareness among the people regarding the importance of following and obeying traffic rules, enforcement will be futile because people will break the rules again. There is a notion among the people that they should wear helmets and seat belts to avoid being challaned by the traffic police but in fact it is for their own safety and security, she asserted.
She has advised the people to restrain themselves from travelling in overloaded passenger vehicles since the machinery can break any time if it is loaded beyond its capacity. She has further asked them to contact the traffic rural police on the helpline numbers 0191-2459048, 0191-2462299, 9419147732 and WhatsApp on 9622882222 in case of traffic violation by these passenger vehicles including overloading, using mobile phones while driving, rash driving, etc.
Shaheen has further requested the public to follow and obey traffic rules for their own and others’ safety and support the traffic police to implement traffic safety rules.
