Traditional Archery Tournament begins

KARGIL: Three-Day Jashne Nauroze Archery Tournament 2017 being organised by District Police Kargil kicked off on Wednesday at the premises of Tourist Facilitation Center, Kargil.
Deputy Commissioner /CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Haji Gulzar Hussain in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police T. Gyalpo declared the tournament open.
The opening match was played between IG Bemathang and Chanchik Archers which was won by Chanchik Archers by 10 points.
Besides a total of 12 matches were played during the day. In all, 37 teams from across the district are participating in the three day tournament.
The final matches shall be held on 25th of March, 2017.
Haji Gulzar Hussain, while congratulating District Police Kargil in organising yet another traditional sports festival, expressed hope that this initiative will go a long way in ensuring preservation of the traditional game of archery besides to give opportunity to encourage the players to hone their archery skills.
Senior Superintendent of Police T. Gyalpo said that District Police Kargil is committed to the welfare of the public particularly the youngsters, and for the accomplishment of this purpose several other welfare activities apart from this archery tournament are in the pipeline.
Earlier Deputy Superintendent of Police HQR Kargil Ishtiyaq Ahmad Kacho, while welcoming the guests, participating players and the spectators, highlighted the three-day traditional sports extravaganza.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Superintendent of Police DAR Kargil Rigzin Sandup, Senior PO Tsering Phunsog, Executive Officer MC Kargil Abdul Gaffar Zargar, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kargil, participating players and a large number of spectators.
