STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Trade and industry will benefit from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and there is no room for any concern about its introduction, said Rajan Lachala, Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise, Jammu while speaking at the concluding session of two-day Workshop on GST organised by Central Excise Commissionerate, Jammu and Kashmir at Kathua on 29th December and Udhampur on Friday.
The aim of the workshop was to sensitise the industry, trade and other stakeholders to the proposed GST regime which shall be rolled out in India in 2017.
The officials welcomed the participants to the workshop and presented the benefits of GST to all the stakeholders, citing that GST as a game changer would result in reduction of multiplicity of taxes, reducing the cascading effect of taxes and transforming India into a common national market. A brief overview of GST, along with the transitional provisions was explained to the participants by the officers of the Commissionerate. Queries of the trade pertaining to the provisions of Model GST Law were deliberated upon and satisfactorily attended to.
The Additional Commissioner, C.L Dogra, in a statement issued yesterday, said that these workshops and camps on GST shall be organised by the Commissionerate for all stakeholder’s facilitation on a regular basis and added that the next Workshop would be conducted at Srinagar.
The workshop was attended by large number of representatives of trade, industry association, members of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and other stakeholders.
