Toyota India plans to recall 170 units of its Prius hybrid in order to fix the fault in the retention brackets of the car’s driver and passenger side curtain airbags. Globally, the Japanese car manufacturer has decided for a voluntary recall of around 1.43 million units of the Prius. This service by Toyota will be done free of cost.

The 170 recalled Prius models have been manufactured between November 2009 and April 2012. For this recalling process, the company has started a campaign in India starting from June 29, 2016. Though no failures have been reported from prius owners, Toyota is planning this recall as a precautionary measure in order to avoid any future complaints.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor stated, “We have decided to initiate a voluntary recall campaign in India starting June 29, 2016 for the inspection and installation of retention brackets on the curtain shield airbag inflators of certain numbers of Toyota Prius models sold in India. There are no reported failures of the affected part or any aggravations thereon in India till date. This voluntary recall campaign is being done by TKM in order to fulfil Toyota’s commitment to customer satisfaction”.

The concerned owners of Prius will be contacted soon by the authorized Toyota dealerships for the recall process. Toyota also plans for a recall of around 2.87 million cars worldwide for fixing the fault in the fuel emission controls.
