Total knee replacement performed in Govt Hospital Sarwal

JAMMU: Achieving a major feat, Government Hospital Sarwal on Thursday performed total knee replacement on a 60 year old female with osteoarthritis knee joints here under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Vijay Raina informed that the surgery was performed by consultant orthopaedics Dr Nipun Kalsotra, anaesthesia was given by Dr Vishal Gupta and Dr Anu Manhas and they were assisted by other OT team members.
“The patient was suffering from severe osteoarthritis of knee joints for the past 10 years and could barely walk a few steps due to severe pain in knee joints. Her right knee joint was having severe varus deformity and was not able to completely bend or straighten her right knee. Surgery was performed using the latest technique with minimal blood loss. Patient was made to walk the next day of surgery” the MS said.
Dr Nipun Kalsotra informed that the surgery was performed using the latest technique and implant, which usually costs around Rs 3 to Rs 4 lakh in private hospitals out of state but patients can avail this free of cost under government’s PMJAY scheme in Government Hospital Sarwal. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Nipun Kalsotra has done fellowship in joint replacement, arthroscopy and sport injuries from Germany and is regularly performing arthroscopic (button hole) joint surgeries for the last few years in Government Hospital Sarwal and have also started specialised sport injuries OPD every Wednesday.
