RAJOURI: Police on Monday arrested an employee working for the contractor for collection of municipal toll tax.
As per reports, on the directions of SSP Rajouri, Dr. Hasseb Mughal, a team led by SHO Rajouri, Yashpal Singh Jamwal laid a trap on Salani Bridge and arrested the employee for collecting toll.
Reportedly there is restriction on collection of toll tax from the vehicles which ply on Jammu Rajouri Poonch Highway as it does not come under the jurisdiction of Municipal Committee and committee is not authorised for collecting tax on highway.
However, despite restrictions, said contractor was extorting money in the name of tax from the vehicles which ply on the highway after which police laid trap and arrested employee of contractor and a case of extortion has also been registered.
The arrested employee namely Mohammad Asif son of Khadam Hussain resident of Godar Kalakote also tried to flee from the clutches of police and jumped from Salani Bridge but was arrested by police from river and is also having injury in one leg.
It is pertinent here to mention that repeated complaints have been registered against the tax collector wherein drivers alleged that the said contractor extorts money from vehicles which ply on highway also despite restrictions of the same.
