Srinagar: Three unidentified terrorists were killed and a civilian injured in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district on Wednesday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tikken area of Pulwama district in the early hours of Wednesday following information about presence of terrorists there, a police official said. He said the search operation jointly launched by Pulwama Police, 55RR and 182, 183 BNs CRPF turned into an encounter after terrorists opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated. During the search operation, as the presence of terrorists got ascertained they were given opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter. Zamir Sadiq Lone in whose house the terrorists were hiding also received gunshot injuries and was evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries where his condition is stated to be stable.
In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They were identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Lone resident of Arigam Pulwama, Umer Ali resident of Dadsara Tral and Umar Farooq resident of Sugan Shopian. All the killed terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Al-Badr.
As per police records, the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in many terror crime cases including planning and executing several major terror attacks on security forces.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials were taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes, a police spokesperson said.
“Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the bodies of the killed terrorists are being sent to Baramulla for their burial and last rites after completion of medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorists shall be allowed to participate in the last rites at Baramulla”, the spokesperson added.
In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, four civilians were injured after terrorists lobbed a grenade on a vehicle carrying security personnel in Baramulla district, police said.
The attack took place at Singhpora in Pattan area of the district, they said.
The terrorists lobbed the grenade towards a vehicle of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) this morning but it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, resulting in injuries to four civilians, a police official said.
Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on, a police spokesperson said.
