26 foreign ultras neutralised in J&K since January

Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday foiled an infiltration bid in Kupwara district and killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, police said.
“Based on a specific input developed by police regarding an infiltration attempt by terrorists in Jumagund village in Kupwara, the ultras were intercepted by the Army and police,” a police spokesperson said.
He said an encounter broke out between the ultras and security forces in which three terrorists were neutralised.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the slain terrorists were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit LeT.
2 LeT terrorists behind TV artiste’s killing trapped
Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, involved in the killing of a female TV artiste on Wednesday, have been trapped in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
“Both killers (LeT #terrorists) of late Amreen Bhat, an artist, trapped in #Awantipora #encounter. Further details shall follow,” Inspector General of Police (Kashmir zone) Vijay Kumar said in a tweet.
Amreen Bhat, who worked as a TV artiste besides being an emerging social media starlet, was shot dead and her 10-year-old nephew injured by ultras inside her house at Chadoora in Budgam district on Wednesday.
A police spokesman earlier said that an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces at AganHanzipora in Awantipora area of Pulwama district. There were no reports of any casualties so far on either side, police said.
“Identification (of the terrorists) is being ascertained. Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, have been recovered from the encounter site,” Kumar said.
He termed the elimination of three terrorists as a big success and congratulated the joint forces for successive operations leading to the elimination of six foreign terrorists in last 24 hours which adds the tally of killed foreign terrorist to 26 (14 JeM and 12 LeT) during the current year in the valley.
Kumar said 14 of the slain foreign terrorists were from Jaish, founded by Masood Azhar, while 12 were affiliated to LeT set up by Hafiz Mohammad Sayeed.
Two Lashkar ultras, who were allegedly involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit employee Rahul Bhat, were killed in an encounter in Bandipora district on May 13.
A senior army officer earlier this month said the foreign terrorists were compelled to come out of their hideouts to conduct operations in Kashmir as the number of local ultras is coming down in the valley.
