Thousands pledge to join Sonam Wangchuk today as he enters 5th day of ‘Climate Fast’

LEH: Chairman Apex Body of People’s Movement for Sixth Schedule & President Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Thupstan Chhewang on Sunday flew from Jammu and visited innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk who is on a five-day ‘Climate Fast’ to highlight environmental issues concerning Ladakh and the Himalayans and also to seek constitutional safeguards under Sixth Schedule of the Constitution to protect the ecologically-fragile Ladakh from industrial exploitations.
Thupstan Chhewang thanked Sonam Wangchuk for the pain he is taking for the safeguard of Ladakh, Himalayas and the fragile ecology. Chhewang got emotional and literally cried as he held Sonam Wancghuk’s hands. He enquired about Wangchuk’s health.
Thupstan Chhewang informed that socio-political organisations Leh would join Sonam Wangchuk for fasting on Monday as Wangchuk enters his fifth day of fasting. He appealed to the people of Ladakh to join for the ‘fasting’ for Ladakh’s future. Chhewang was accompanied by President LBA Women Wing, President LBA Youth Wing and executive members of LBA. While as many as 10,000 people across India and the world are expected to register for ‘fasting’ on Monday for the protection of the environment around the world.
President Ladakh Gonpa Association, Vice President Anjuman Immamia, and many other dignitaries also have visited Sonam Wangchuk and garlanded him with ‘khataks’, the sacred white scarf. On 31st January, socio-religious-political organisations of Leh are organising a mega reception in Sonam Wangchuk’s favour.
