Third New Year Masters T20 Cup;Senior Police XI scripts win in opening match

JAMMU: Senior Police XI defeated Jammu Media XI by five wickets and won the opening match of the Third New Year Masters T20 Cricket Cup, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department at Parade Ground, here on Tuesday.
Earlier, Batting first, Media Cricket XI scored 108 runs in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets. Faheem Tak (25), Amit (21) and Jagdeep (16) run were the main scorers. For Senior Police XI, Arun clinched three wickets while Shamsher Singh captured two and R.K Bhat claimed one wicket.
Senior Police XI, in reply, achieved the target in 18 overs by losing five wickets and won the match by five wickets. Nadeem was the top scorer with 35 runs while Shashi contributed 27 and vinod scored 25 runs. Faheem and Sunil picked two wickets each while Jagdeep grabbed one. Nadeem was adjudged Man of the Match.
In the tournament six teams are participating which includes Media XI, Senior Police XI, Doordarshan XI, Parade Sports Association XI, Cantt Cricket XI and Singh Akhnoor XI.
Earlier, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of Transport, in presence of Vanita Gupta Transport Commissioner, Ajay Singh Jamwal Additional Transport Commissioner, R.K Bhat SSP, Vikas Sharma Joint transport Commissioner, Abdul Rashid Fani Addition Secretary Road Safety and Dr. Vinod Kumar SP City, inaugurated the tournament. The minister lauded the efforts of the organising team in conducting the cricket event on the occasion of traffic week with the slogan ‘Derive Carefully and to Live Happily’.
He appealed to the participating cricketers to teach the youngsters about the traffic guidance and traffic rules so that the rate of road accidents may be decreased.
Earlier Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer and Coordinator of the Tournament presented the welcome address and gave a brief note of the tournament.
The proceedings of the opening function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar and the opening match was officiated by Sadiq Husaain, Sandeep and Vinod.
Tomorrow’s Fixture: Parade Sports Association to meet Singh Akhnoor XI at 12:30 PM.
