Theft cases on rise in Jammu City; police in deep slumber

10 cases reported from Janipur in a week; over a dozen from others areas

JAMMU: In contrary to tall claims made by Jammu police regarding foolproof safety and security of masses and effective check on anti-social elements, especially in Jammu city, it has been observed that the scenario on ground level is completely different.
Although, a theft or burglary is not a new thing for Jammu but from last few days, an unexpected rise has been witnessed in the theft cases, which are being reported from various parts of ‘City of Temples’ depriving innocent people of hard-earned money and other valuable assets.
The further matter to worry is that despite reporting of theft cases, that too at regular intervals, the Jammu police seem least bothered to initiate some stern action against the accused responsible for the same, as no arrest or recovery has been made. Police, which is responsible for the ensuring safety of life and property of people, this time seems lazy and taking benefit of the situation, thieves are ruling the roost, without any fear of law.

Increase in theft cases creates scare in Jammu City

Even the role of Jammu police in controlling the menace of sale of Chinese thread (Gattu) in City is also a known fact. Almost all the Kite lovers used only Gattu on Rakshan Bandan and Janmashtmi as Indian Manja was not at all available in Jammu markets. Jammu police boasted by seizing 400 Gattu and claimed that they achieved a major success. The Ban on Gattu by the district administration was fully violated in Jammu.
Sources informed that even the seized Gattu was either resold in market or distributed by policemen among their families members and friends.
Meanwhile, if reports are to be believed, more than 10 theft cases have been reported at Janipur Police Station during last 7 days. Where on Thursday, thieves targeted a house in Top Paloura area, belonging to one Uttam Singh, and decamped with jwellery worth lakhs, cash, laptop and other goods when the family was out for some work, on the other hand one, Sweta Singh lodged a complaint with police regarding theft of her scooty (JK02BE-5604), from Lakkar Mandi area which she had parked outside her house. On Sunday also, two theft cases were reported, as Yoginder Kumar, resident of Karlup lodged a complaint with Kanachak Police that thieves targeted his house and decamped with goods, when he along with family was out. Another theft case was reported in Bathindi area where thieves also targeted a house.
Although, cases have been registered in both instances and after carrying out inspection of the team by FSL team, the police have started investigations but till date nothing concrete has been obtained in the matter. Moreover, looking at the scenario and on directive of the high-ups, the patrolling etc has also been increased but the need of the hour is to activate all sources and carryout a massive operation against thieves or the gang active in area, so that such incidents may not reoccur.
