Terror incidents declined post abrogation Art 370
Palak Abrol
Jammu & Kashmir has been witness to huge episodes of violence and mayhem in the past three decades. Terrorists, soldiers, policeman, civilians etc all have been consumed in the violence. The violence of three decades has destroyed the peace and progress of Kashmir. Scores of families have been destroyed due to unabated violence. Kashmir has seen all the important spheres of life being demolished due to violence.
This unending radical approach of violence has been a painful scar on youth of Kashmir.
Now after abrogation of article 370 the incidents of Terrorism are down in Kashmir. Although the unfortunate target killing of minorities and police personnel still remain the concern for one and all.
In the recent times, the officials claim that security situation had deteriorated in Kashmir especially with reference to minority killing where in recent times seven civilians including a government clerk, a government teacher, a private wine shop employee, a TV artist, Banker, and a migrant worker have been killed in targeted attacks. After seeing these ugly episodes of violence and grappling with the spate of killings, authorities have started posting employees belonging to minority communities, including Kashmiri Pandits, to ‘safer locations’ within the valley. Many government employees had been transferred to eight safer zones near the district headquarters in Srinagar, the summer capital. Jammu and Kashmir Government is giving every chance to the youth to return to the mainstream and shun the path of violence, so that no more families suffer the pangs of violence.
Even the Ministry of Home Ministry also known as MHA has stated clearly that episodes of Terrorism are on decline in Jammu and Kashmir. The recent revelation on it in temple of democracy Parliament has come as music to peace lovers. While giving a written reply to a query to the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, the MoS Home said the government has said a ‘policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and security situation has improved significantly in Jammu and Kashmir.’ The Minister said the incidents of terrorist attacks also decreased significantly since 2018 in Jammu and Kashmir.
A total of 229 terrorist attacks were reported in 2021; 244 in 2020; 255 in 2019; and 417 in 2018. Violence in society is of increasing concern to all Kashmir. The call of prudence and growing knowledge of the nature of violence requires us to expand our ideas of who are the perpetrators of violence, and who are affected.
We are coming to realize that violence takes many more forms than physical blows or wounds.
We have to in this regard prevent our youth from joining violent outfits especially Terrorism violence in Kashmir is not limited to death as it included sexual assault, neglect, verbal attacks, insults, threats, harassment and other psychological abuses. Violence occurs in homes, workplaces, public institutions, schools, health care facilities and the street. Women and children are as often the victims of violence as are men, and most often the violence is committed by someone known to the victim.
With reference to violence there is also time ripe enough now that Kashmiris as a society wake up and understand that such spiritually rich society can’t afford perpetuation of such violent crimes in name of ugly pot of violence and thus should not protect such criminals.
And above all, when such crimes are carried out in the name of Jihad and Islam the criminals are indulging in the worst form of blasphemy.
Islam never approves killing of unarmed people and killing an innocent human is the killing of entire humanity.
The opinion on ground zero of Jammu and Kashmir especially the Kashmir valley is well aware of the negative impacts of war and violence on the social and moral fabric of the society, plus its colossal impacts on economy and jobs.
