Tehsildar among two nabbed by ACB while accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh

SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested one Mohammad Younis Bangroo, Tehsildar Shalteng, Srinagar and Gh Rasool Hajam, Naib Tehsildar, Batamaloo while demanding Rs 5 lakh and accepting Rs 2 lakh as 1st instalment of bribe from complainant.
As per an official spokesperson, the sleuths of ACB received a complaint wherein it was alleging that one Mohammad Younis, Tehsildar and Gh Rasool Hajam, Naib-Tehsildar of Tehsil Office Shalteng are demanding Rs 5 lakh as bribe for allowing complainants to run their business on Nazool land transferred in their favour under Roshni Act at Rampur, Chattabal Srinagar, while the matter is sub-judice and pending disposal before the Court of law. The official further said that complainants pleaded for justice but both the revenue officers demanded bribe of Rs 5 lakh for allowing them to run their business and thereafter amount of bribe was settled to be paid in installments. As first installment, the complainants were asked to pay Rs 2 lakh. However, before paying bribe amount to accused persons, the complainants approached ACB for taking legal action against the accused public servants under law. “Accordingly, FIR No. 29/2022 under section 7 of PC Act 1988 read with 120-B of IPC was registered and investigation started. A trap team was constituted, which caught Gh Rasool Hajam, Naib Tehsildar, Shalteng red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh from complainant. The bribe money was also recovered from Rasool Hajam, Naib Tehsildar, Batmaloo in presence of independent witness. Mohammad Younis Bangroo, Tehsildar Shalteng was also arrested by the ACB team. Later searches were carried out at the residences and officials quarters of the alleged accused Public servants, subsequent to the searches at Tehsil office, Shalteng, said official, adding that further investigation is going on.
