Teachers’ federation condemns attack on teacher, demands re-investigation

Poonch: Poonch Unit of All Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Teachers Federation condemned attack on a female teacher by a local youth at Village Kattal in Surankote Zone and demanded action against the culprit.
A delegation of teachers led by District President AJKLTF Poonch Darshan Bharti met Chief Education Officer Poonch and demanded action against the culprit.
The delegation alleged that the teacher namely Surbi Sehgal posted at MS Kattal Surankote was on her way to duty on Friday and was stopped by a local masked man who thrashed her and decamped with her bag and other belongings and pushed her to the nearby bushes. The teachers also suffered injuries. The teacher in a harassed condition reached school and narrated the whole story to the school staff; later the school staff enquired about the youth simultaneously the school staff also informed the teacher’s father about the incident.
Later on, the teacher’s father informed the police who registered the case and arrested the youth but released him in the evening. The teachers demanded re-investigation into the case and transfer of the victim teacher to the safer place as the teacher has been receiving threats for taking the FIR back.
The teachers strongly condemned the incident and demanded intervention of CEO Poonch into the case. The Chief Education Officer Poonch Ch Lal Hussain listened to the delegation sympathetically and also condemned the incident. He also talked to the Zonal Education Officer Surankote for writing to the Police for reinvestigation into the case. He also assured transfer of the victim teacher to a safer place.
The deputation was comprised of Gurvibnder Singh, Organising Secretary, Dr Dharminder Shastri, Convenor, Neetan Sharma, Ajay Maini, Fayaz Ali, Vice President and Pankaj Sharma.
