TC inaugurates road safety awareness programme

JAMMU: All J&K Transport Welfare Association (AJKTWA), the umbrella organization of different transport owners bodies and unions of drivers and cleaners, on Thursday organized awareness cum health camp here in Ware House Jammu to celebrate 35th National Road Safety Month-2025.

Karan Singh Wazir , Chairman of the association along with Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Transport Commissioner, J&K jointly inaugurated the health camp and traffic awareness program in presence of senior officers of the Transport Department including Pankaj Bhagotra, RTO Jammu, Pawan Sharma and Tara Mani Assistant Regional Transport Officers.
On this occasion senior functionaries of the Transport Association and members also attended the program including President Vijay Singh Chib, President of the Transport Welfare Association , Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Gurdeep Singh, Labh Singh, Ranjit Singh, Deepak Sharma, Harasis Singh, KD Singh and Vijay Dogra, Shashi, Shanti Saroop.
Transport Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan appreciated the Transport Association for organizing the traffic awareness program and asked its members to continue support the Transport department in smooth flow of traffic in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also assured the transporters that all their genuine issues would be taken care by the department. Transport commissioner also pushed for the insurance policy for the betterment of transport drivers which will cost them Rs 20 and Rs 436 respectively for the safety of the drivers which is in collaboration with J&K Bank.
Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Commissioner emphasized that road safety is not just a one-day affair but a lifelong commitment. He stated, “Every day should be observed as Road Safety Day and following traffic rules, staying vigilant, and promoting responsible driving should be part of our daily routine, not just during special campaigns.” he added.
Highlighting the significance of adopting Traffic related disciplines he strongly urged people to avoid drunk driving, emphasizing that alcohol impairs judgment, slows reflexes, and significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents. He highlighted that strict action will be taken against those caught violating rules.
He further reiterated the dangers of over speeding, rash driving, and breaking traffic rules, stressing that a few minutes of impatience on the road can cost precious lives.
The Transport Commissioner said that a detailed analysis of accident trends would be conducted at the end of the year to check the effectiveness and impact of these campaigns .
He emphasized on pedestrian safety, lane discipline, and traffic signal adherence, urging citizens to set an example by adopting good traffic related habits.
In his address during the program Karan Singh Wazir highlighted several issues of transporters and urged the drivers and other crew members of the commercial vehicles to follow the traffic rules. Vijay Singh Chib, President of the Transport Welfare Association Presented the vote of thanks.
Earlier, the Transport Commissioner also paid a surprise visit to RTO Jammu premises to review the functioning of the office. He directed the concerned officials to deliver all services within the stipulated timeline. He also asked concerned officials to display the notified fee for each service at prominent places within premises so that applicants can come to know about notified fees and not fall prey to any middlemen.
