Tawi Trekkers Himalayan programme from Oct 25

JAMMU: Tawi Trekkers J and K shall organise the second phase of Himalayan Trekking Programme-2016 by conducting a number of heritage treks for school students during October-November in Dharam-shala area of Himachal Pradesh. During the four days Dharamshala trek, scheduled to start from 25th October, the trekkers would visit the world heritage site of Kangra Fort, the sacred Jawalajee Temple, one of the most ancient temples in India; Macleodganj, the seat of His Holiness Dalai Lama; Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel; Bhagshunath, the beautiful Waterfall, the serene Dal Lake, Tapovan, Chamunda, Dharamshala and Nagini besides a visit to the beautiful Dharamshala Stadium. The participation fee which includes boarding, lodging, transportation and supervision by expert trekkers from Jammu is Rs. 2,900. The purpose of the programme is to expose young boys and girls to nature and world famous Indian heritage and thereby imbibe in them the spirit of adventure and love and pride for the country and its glorious past. It may be mentioned here that first phase of Himalayan Trekking Programme, the most popular adventure activity of the club among school students, was conducted by the club during summer vacations in Manali area of Himachal Pradesh and Moungri area in Udhampur District of J and K. Besides, the club has also conducted a high altitude trek to Triund (10,500ft) in Himachal Pradesh, one professional adventure camp, two coaching camps for sport climbers, one at Jammu and the other at Delhi and sponsored climbers for a Belayers Course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi.
“Three members of the club Shawetica Khajuria, Ambreen Fatima and Shashi Kant Sharma also scaled Matho Kangri Peak (20439ft) in an expedition organised by Mountaineering Association of J and K. And above all, a sport climber of the club Aman Dogra, represented the country at the Asian Youth Championship at Tehran (Iran),” informed General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J and K, Ram Khajuria.
It may also be recalled here that Tawi Trekkers J and K is a voluntary adventure sports and social organisation run by highly dedicated young boys and girls whose only aim is to spread the spirit of adventure and love of nature amongst all strata of society without distinction of color, caste, class or creed.
