Tara Chand calls for stronger grassroots organization, greater role for women in decision-making

KHOUR: The Monthly Meeting of the Block Congress Committee (BCC) Khour was held on Monday with enthusiastic participation of party delegates, office bearers and grassroots workers from across the region. The gathering turned vibrant as a large number of women delegates actively participated in discussions, reflecting the spirit of International Women’s Day and highlighting the growing role of women in the party organization.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Working President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Tara Chand, attended the meeting as the Chief Guest. He interacted with party leaders and workers on key political, social and organizational matters. Deliberations focused on strengthening the party at the grassroots level, expanding public outreach and ensuring greater participation of women and youth in political activities.
The meeting served as a platform to review the party’s functioning at the block level and to frame strategies for better coordination among workers in the Chhamb and Akhnoor constituencies. Speakers stressed the importance of maintaining regular public interaction to understand local concerns and ensure that people’s issues are effectively raised at appropriate forums.
A significant portion of the discussion centered on women’s empowerment. Leaders observed that the increasing participation of women in political activities reflects positive social change and strengthens democratic institutions. They emphasized that women’s involvement in decision-making is vital for inclusive and balanced governance.
Addressing the gathering, Tara Chand extended greetings to women participants on International Women’s Day and appreciated their active involvement in organizational affairs. He reiterated that the Congress party has always stood for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Greater representation of women in leadership roles, he said, would strengthen the organization and ensure that issues concerning women and marginalized communities receive due attention.
He also urged party workers to intensify grassroots efforts and maintain close public contact, emphasizing that unity and dedicated public service are pillars of a vibrant democracy. Referring to election promises, he stressed that developmental commitments must be fulfilled to meet public aspirations.
The meeting concluded with a message of unity and commitment to strengthening the Congress organization and promoting inclusive development.

Kali Das, Madan Lal Sharma, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Suram Singh Bhau, Devinder Singh Bhau, Bodh Raj Sharma, Devinder Singh alias Bittu, Sham Lal, Hans Raj Bhagat, Tarsem Singh, Bachno Devi, Beena Devi, and Capt. Gopal Das, along with several senior leaders and workers.
