‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ success a confidence booster: Kangana
New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut is beaming with joy as her latest release “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” has crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark and the actress says the film’s success makes her more confident about her choices.
The Anand L Rai directed romantic-comedy, also starring R Madhavan and Jimmy Shergill, opened to decent reviews and good public response last week.
“It makes you a lot more confident in your instincts…
What you believed in has clicked in such a big way. It definitely boosts your confidence. It is a nice feeling,” the 28-year-old actress told reporters here.
A huge crowd had gathered to click her pictures and Kangana was greeted by “we love you Tanu” chants. The actress gave a thumbs up sign to the fans waiting for her appearance.
When asked if the success of “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” preceded by Deepika Padukone’s “Piku” proves that female- centric films have finaly arrived, Kangana said, “‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is not a female-centric film. It is a love story, it has just got a great female protagonist. If you see in the past we had films like ‘Guide’, ‘Mughl-E-Azam’ or even ‘Pyasa’ for that matter…
“And in between we had really unfortunate times, when women were reduced to furniture in the films. Now is a great time that does not mean they are women-centric films, they are just good films,” she said at the launch of a clothing store.
The actress has just landed Vishal Bhardwaj’s “Rangoon”, a period love triangle, also starring Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
While the director has given both Saif and Shahid their career’s most defining roles in “Omkara”, “Kaminey” and recently released “Haider”, he is teaming up with the National-award-winning actress for the first time.
“Yes, I am doing ‘Rangoon’ and it is going to be an amazing film,” Kangana said.
