Swachh cess
Dear Editor,
The government has imposed the Swachh Bharat cess of 0.50 per cent on all taxable services. Its first anniversary is approaching and people are paying the cess, but not a single concrete effort is visible to support the levying of the cess. Even dustbin facilities at the local level are missing. Garbage continues to lie in the open, causing various diseases; and farmers continue to burn stubble. It is time for action as the situation will only get worse, if ignored. Early steps should be taken at small levels in providing dustbins in localities. Inspections should be held regularly and a ban should be imposed on throwing waste in the open. A practical approach needs to be adopted to keep the earth liveable.
Simrat,
Batala
