POONCH: Although there is a competition among political groups to take credit of the completion of the Mughal Road, leaders have maintained silence over the deplorable condition of the existing Surankote-Draba Road on the Mughal Road in Surankote Tehsil. The 12-km Surankote-Bufliaz track on this Surankote to Mughal Road has virtually turned into a death trap because of its worst condition.
The GREF authorities have taken up the task of repairing of this road, but the work has been going on at a snail’s pace and the condition of this track has been deteriorating with every passing day.
The alternate road connecting Jammu province with Kashmir Valley via Mughal Road has been witnessing heavy traffic on the road but the State administration has failed to repair Surankote-Draba Road which has suffered extensive damages during the last flashflood and rainfall during September 2014.
“Every day we have to put our lives on risk while passing through this track,” observed Ashok Vaid, a resident of Draba, who is running a shop in Draba village. Pointing towards the condition of the road, he said except promises, the authorities have done nothing to repair the track.
Another resident Brij Mohan Sharma said, ” We were happy when the repair work on the road started last year but poor quality work has deteriorated the condition of the road, I think it should be probed that how poor quality work was done”.
