STATE TIMES NEWS
RAMNAGAR: Haling the decision of Supreme Court of India directing the State Government to establish Degree College in Majalta, Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP and former Minister, on Thursday called for start of admissions for Part-I course of graduation from the current academic session itself.
He regretted that the State Government which had been bound by the Supreme Court to issue the order for establishment of Degree College in Majalta before 15th July, 2016 on a petition filed by Sarpanchs of Tehsil Majalta in case titled Karnail Singh Sarpanch and others Vs State of J and K had delayed the process which could eventually effect the start of academic session in the said college during the present academic session.
Reminding the State government of the Supreme Court directions for filing the compliance report before the Apex Court on 18th July, 2016 on which date the case was again listed, Harsh maintained that it was not merely a question of the issuance of establishment order of the college but the said college has got to be made functional before that date. Singh said that the Degree College Majalta was not only a necessity but a compulsion for the BJP-PDP Government as the Division Bench of the J and K High Court had also passed adverse orders against the State Government for non implementation of its order regarding opening of the college. He said that the special leave petition filed by the State Government before Supreme Court had also been disposed by the said court by directing the State Government to issue orders for opening of the Majalta College with further directions to the Chief Secretary to file the Affidavit regarding establishment of the College by 15th July, 2016 before the registry of the Supreme Court and to make it functional before 18th July.
Complimenting the Sarpanchs of Tehsil Majalta for their sustained fight in the said courts which lasted for five years, Harsh hailed the Supreme Court for ensuring justice to the deprived area of Majalta where majority of the students especially girl students abandoned their studies after 10+2.
The Sarpanchs had duly annexed with the writ petition dozens of communications made by Harsh Dev with the Union and State Governments including Prime Minister, University Grants Commission and J and K Chief Minister as annexures wherein assurances had given by the latter but their implementation delayed.
The Sarpanchs who had filed the petition before the High Court and later became Respondents before the Supreme Court included Karnail Singh Sarpanch, Rajesh Kumar Sarpanch, Dharam Singh Sarpanch, Balwant Raj Sarpanch, Dina Nath Sarpanch, Raj Kumar Sarpanch, Mohd Saleem Sarpanch, Abdul Rashid Sarpanch, Balwan Singh Sarpanch.
