Jammu: A 22-year-old youth, spurned by a girl, allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train in Samba district on Tuesday, following which his family members blocked traffic on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway and accused the family of the girl of murder.
“Anil Kumar of Vijaypur town was following the girl for sometimes now, but she always refused,” SDPO Vijaypur DySP S.S Sambyal.
He further said that on Tuesday again the boy called the girl and told her that he would end his life if she rejected his “love proposal.”
“As per the statement of the girl, she again refused the proposal and the boy warned her that he would end his life.
She said she heard a loud cry and sound of moving train on her phone,” Sambyal said.
After the phone got disconnected, the girl informed the family of the boy.
However, the family members of Anil blamed the girl’s family for the “murder” of their son and held a protest and blocked highway. They called off their demonstration only after senior police officers and officers from the Railway Police reached the spot to pacify them.
The Railway Police assured the family of a through and fair investigation would be conducted into the incident.
SDM Vijaypur Sonu Pargal and SDPO Vijaypur S.S Sambyal assured the protesters that the case will be thoroughly investigated.
On the assurance of SDM and SDPO, the protesters lifted Dharna and the road was opened for traffic.
