JAMMU: Concerned over their future, thousands of students of class 12th on Saturday took to streets in protest against the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (J&K BOSE) for setting out of pattern paper of physics subject.
Police resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting students. Many students got injured and were detained during the protest.
Shouting slogans, students protested outside the Board office demanding re-conduct of the examination or awarding the grace marks.
They later marched towards B C Road and blocked the traffic at Rehari Chowk demanding justice amid slogan shouting against the J&K Board authorities.
Police tried to pacify the students but the situation took an ugly turn when they were cane-charged. Over a dozen students were detained while many others including girls got injured during the clash.
Officials led by ADC Arun Manhas rushed to the spot and listened to the grievances of the protesting students following which a detailed meeting was held with the JKBOSE officials.During the meeting, Secretary J&K BOSE Veena Pandita asked students to table their demands in black and white assuring that a committee will be constituted on the issue, which will submit its report by March 7.
“The government has relaxed 50 per cent of the syllabus for the students in Kashmir and also promoted them to next level without examination but in Jammu, apart from starting Board Examination pattern from Class Fifth, no norms are being laid to set an examination, which is worrying,” said a protesting student.
The students were demanding re-conduct of the examination or granting of grace marks.
Police said that the detained students were also released in the evening.
Meanwhile, the School Board has postponed the English Paper of Class XII which was scheduled to be held on 7th March, 2017 as per date sheet and now will be held on 25 March 25. As per notification, rest of the papers will be held as per scheduled date sheet.
