Students protest against poor transport facility

NOWSHERA: Students of local Government Degree College, Government Boys Higher Secondary School and Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Monday staged a demonstration against administration for its failure to provide adequate public transport facility.
A large number of students gathered at Main Bus Stand here and raised slogans against local administration. The protest led to huge traffic jam which lasted for more than two hours.
Students Harmeet Kour, Devinder Kour, Dalbir Singh, Sukhvinder Singh and Amrit Pal Kour said that Rajpur Bhatta via Thalka route is the most affected and students have to face lot of hardships while travelling on this route. “Due to dearth of public transport facility on this route, we have to travel the distance on foot which has become the reason of contention as most of the students reach their respective educational institutions late irking the school administration”, rued students. They further said that despite repeated representations nothing concrete has come to fore.
Later, Deputy Chief Education Officer Ravinder Singh along with few students called on SDM Nowshera Dipti Uppal and apprised her about their concern. After listening to their grievance, Uppal informed that transport facility was affected due to elections as the vehicles were hired by different agencies. She assured that adequate transport will be available for the people at the earliest.
