JAMMU: Patriotic students of NIT Srinagar on Sunday embarrassed BJP led NDA government at the centre by organising a massive show of strength in the form of ‘Tiranga Satyagraha’ at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Holding placards and Tricolor, over 500 students assembled at the Dharna Stahal instead of returning to their campus where classes are scheduled to begin from Monday.
The placards read slogans and messages targeting the BJP-PDP alliance government in the State for not taking action against the police officials responsible for brutally attacking students inside the campus.
To corner the BJP led alliance government, senior Congress leader and former union Minister RPN Singh also joined the students’ group and sympathised with them.
To support the agitating students another group of NIT students, camping in Jammu, organised a parallel protest demonstration at Jammu Press Club.
At both the venues the NIT Srinagar students repeated their charter of demands which included tight security on the campus, striking balance between local and non-local faculty members, setting up of students council, grievance redressal cell, and above all hoisting National flag in the campus.
In Delhi former Congress minister RPN Singh addressed the gathering of students at Jantar Mantar and expressed serious concern over their plight and asked the Union Government to reach out to them. In a series of tweet RPN Singh claimed,” Students told me they feared for their security if they returned, government needs to reach out to them”.
“Sad to meet NIT Srinagar students & parents on dharna at Jantar Mantar, they should be in class instead” Singh posted on the social networking site.
Meanwhile, to further intensify their stir in support of their demands the NIT Srinagar in Jammu are going to take out black flag march. The students of local degree colleges are expected to join in the protest demonstration to corner the alliance government in the state
