Students beaten up for wearing Tilak in Govt school; Headmaster suspended

JAMMU: As a case of students beating in a government school in Jammu has gained significant attention, the Directorate of School Education Jammu on Wednesday suspended the in-charge Headmaster of Government High School Chak Jafar, Vandana Sharma.
Students who arrived at school with a Tilak on their foreheads were beaten up. A video of the incident went viral on social media, after which the education department took action. Sources said, this action was taken under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Rules, 1956, and the suspension letter has been issued by the Director School Education, Jammu.
The incident occurred when students came to school wearing Tilak on their foreheads. The incident was captured on camera. Following the release of the video, the department announced an investigation while the Headmaster has been asked to remain attached with the office of Chief Education (CEO) Jammu during the suspension period.
A similar incident had occurred in Buxar, Bihar, a few months ago, where a teacher was accused of beating a fifth-grade student, prompting a police complaint. In 2022, a similar case came to light in a school in Rajouri, where a teacher brutally beat a student who had arrived with a Tilak. The student sustained injuries on her head, forehead, and body, after which the teacher was suspended by the department.
