Steps underway to give fillip to tourism: Dy CM

JAMMU: The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh on Tuesday said that the government has initiated several measures for ensuring that the Tourism industry gets a fillip in the State besides a comprehensive programme is underway to augment the related infra.
The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with a deputation of the Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association here.
Commissioner Secretary, Housing And Urban Development Department, Hridesh Kumar, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Manmohan Singh, representatives of NBCC and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Dr. Singh assured the deputation that the problems being faced by the tourism industry would be addressed in a time bound manner by taking up these with the relevant agencies and departments.
He said the industry is one of the major contributors to the State’s economy besides providing employment to the people especially the youth and necessary initiatives are already underway to ensure its augmentation.
Referring to the Prime Ministers Development Package, the Deputy Chief Minister said the component earmarked for the tourism sector would also ensure that the tourism and the related activities get a fillip by way of bringing more tourist areas under the ambit of tourist development authorities. He said that the besides these other tourism related activities are also covered under these.
Dr Singh also directed the NBCC officers to ensure the timely completion of the project being undertaken by them for augmentation of the sewerage network maintaining that the lackadaisical attitude of the executing agency would not be tolerated. He said that the Sewerage Treatment Plant being constructed by the agency has missed the target and needs to be completed so that the hotels operating in the Jammu city would be provided the necessary facility of discharging their affluent.
