State women climbing team leaves for NZ meet

JAMMU: Three member sport climbing team of Mountaineering Association of J and K (MAJK) on Thursday left for participation in the first Women North Zone Sport Climbing Competition being organised by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee at IMF complex, New Delhi.
Accompanied by General Secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria, the team comprises Ambreen Fatima, Kumari Bindia Sharma and Sakshi Magotra as also Shashi Kant, a Climbing Instructor.
The competition shall be conducted in all the three forms of climbing i.e Lead, Speed and Bouldering at the international standard 50 ft high lead and speed climbing walls and the bouldering Gym in the IMF premises.
“The J and K climbers though quite inexperienced, as far as climbing on international standard walls is concerned, are expected to put up a good show and win at least three medals in lead and bouldering,” Ram Khajuria told.
Earlier, the team went through a week-long coaching camp at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu under the guidance of Instructor, Shashi Kant.
The team was also screened by the officials of J and K State Sports Council.
