State Karate meet gets underway

JAMMU: Organised by Amateur Karate Do Association of Jammu and Kashmir, the two-day State Championship got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here. The opening day of the event witnessed competition in lower age groups of boys and girls.
The Association has claimed to receive a record number of 400 entries for the competition from different districts of Jammu, Rajouri, Kathua, Reasi, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag,, Kupwara, Kishtwar , Leh , Kargil, Udhampur, Baramulla and Pulwama.
“The medal winners shall represent the state in the forthcoming National Championships under the banner of Karate Association of India (KAI),” president of the Association, Ambedkar Gupta said.
Earlier, the competition was declared open jointly by Joint Secretary, State Sports Council Kashmir, Zamir Ahmed Thakur and Joint Secretary Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma. Also present were Faiz Ahmed, Nazeer Ahmed Bhat, Rahil Gupta, Rajan Sharma, Haji Abdul Qayoom (CSO), Ashok Singh, Satish Gupta and Ravi Singh.
Qualified Kumite Judge, Umesh Rekhi is the Organising Secretary of the Tournament while Amit Kumar Sangra has been made Technical Director.
