Stadium under siege; Sports Council shifts games’ venue

JAMMU: After the security agencies tightened the security grid around the sports hub of MA Stadium-the venue for Republic Day function in the Winter Capital, the State Sports Council has ordered shifting of training centres of as many as four sports discipline to suitable alternates.
The activities in these events shall now be conducted outside the MA Stadium for almost a month i.e. till 30th January.
As per the order, issued by the Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu, Rajan Sharma, four disciplines of cricket, fencing, athletics and wrestling have been shifted to alternate venues from today onwards.
While cricket has been shifted to GGM Science College, the fencing coaching centre has already been moved inside the main campus of University of Jammu.
The athletics coaches have been asked to take their trainees to Green Field Ground, Gandhi Nagar while wrestling event has been shifted to Judo Hall of Indoor Complex within MA Stadium, here.
Meanwhile, the security personnel deputed at the main entry point leading to the Stadium Complex are not allowing anybody, except for those registered sports persons and staff members of the State Sports Council.
“We have been directed not to allow anybody beyond this point. However, we have been handed over with a list of staff members. So, we are allowing only the staff carrying their Identify Cards and those sportspersons issued with registration cards,” a security man deputed at the main entrance informed.
