St. Xavier students leave for Dharamsala

trekkingfffJAMMU:  The Fourth batch of Tawi Trekkers J and K, comprising of 49 students including 25 girls of St. Xavier Senior Secondary School, Barnai, here on Monday left for Dharamsala under the overall supervision of Shashi Kant, a trained mountaineer of the Club.

The young trekkers whose average age is about 15 years only shall be participating in the Silver Jubilee Himalayan Trekking Programme Dharamsala, organised by Tawi Trekkers in Dhauladhars of Himachal Pradesh.

The group was flagged off by the Vice Principal of the School, Mridhu Padha in the presence of Senior Vice President, Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria and parents of the participants. Three teachers of the school, Updesh Kour, Niharika Sharma and Vanessa Jenny Danish also accompanied the group.

Meanwhile, the earlier group comprising of students of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, has reached back after a memorable experience of trekking in the dense, calm and cool jungles of Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh.

The aim of the Himalayan Trekking Programme which Tawi Trekkers has been organising during summer vacations for the last about 25 years was to take the students away from the scorching heat and dust, hustle and bustle and monotony of city life and to bring them closer to nature thereby imbibing in them a deep sense of love for adventure and Himalaya.

The next batch of Himalayan Trekking Programme comprising students of Oriental Senior Secondary School, Jammu shall leave for Moungri tomorrow.
