SRTC employees go on strike to protest hiring of trucks

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) employees went on two-day complete strike of its cargo fleet (truck fleet) and staged a protest throughout the State on first day demanding the revocation of arbitrary order no 200/FCS&CA of 2016 under which FCS and CA Department has invited the bid for hiring trucks from open market for transportation of food grain in violation of SRO-157.
The protest was held under the banner of JK SRTC Workers Union led by its Chairman Wajahat Hussain.
The employees gathered at JK SRTC Headquarters MA Road Srinagar under the leadership of Vice Chairman Ab. Rashid Sheikh and marched towards Press Colony thereafter towards Office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and presented the memorandum, similarly in Jammu the protesting employees gathered at JKSRTC Office, Bikram Chowk, and marched towards Press Club.
The employees also raised slogans against CAPD Minster Zulfkar Chowdhary for favouring private transporters.
They demanded immediate revocation of Order No.200-FCS&CA of 2016 dated 14th December, 2016, implementation of SRO-157, fulfillment of commitment made by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to provide 300 new trucks and 200 new busses, enhancement in annual budgetary support, stoppage of privatisation of transportation of food grains, release of pending amount of SRTC with FCS and CA Department amounting Rs. 50 crore and investigate the allotment of transportation work to private party without tenders in Gouran to Inshan- Guzer, in Kishtwar District.
The protest demonstrations shall continue tomorrow and in every District, the JKSRTC employees will protest and present memorandum to their respective District Development Commissioners including Leh and Kargil.
Employees appealed to Chief Minister to intervene in the matter in the interest of general public.
