Over-speeding matador turns turtle, one killed, eight injured

JAMMU: Laxity by Traffic Police in implementing Motor Vehicle Act rules has resulted into another accident in which one 25-year-old youth was killed while eight persons travelling in a matador received injuries that turned turtle at the road adjacent to Secretariat here on Tuesday.
According to report, an over-speeding Matador plying on Parade- Paloura route turned turtle while negotiating a sharp curve near Civil Secretariat, in front of MLA Hostel. The condition of one lady passenger and the conductor of Matador is stated to be critical.
An eye witness said that Matador operators in connivance with Traffic Police cops abetting covert money transactions popularly known as Hafta indulge in reckless driving without taking care of passenger safety or convenience. “This accident is one among many caused due to police negligence and highhandedness of Matador operators”, he added.
The injured were identified as Geeta (35), wife of Tilak Raj, resident of Chinore, Archana (45), wife of Sanjay Raina, resident of Janipur, Dimple (33), wife of Kuldeep Kashyap, Vibaan (1), son of Kuldeep Kashyap, Neetu Mehra (28), daughter of Janak Dass, resident of Rehari, Rudhar (10), son of Tilak Raj, resident of Chinore, Harbeen Kour (45), wife of Inderpal Singh, resident of Rehari, Kamla Devi (40), wife of Charan Dass, resident of Lower Roop Nagar. Injured have been shifted to GMC Jammu. A case under relevant sections has been registered against the driver.
