SPCB seizes 30 kg of polythene

RAMBAN: A joint team of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Forest Protection Force (FPF) Batote and Municipal Committee Ramban carried out surprise check in Seri, Bouli Bazaar, Maitra , Batti and Karol market and seized more than 30 kg of banned polythene carry bags and compounded a penalty amounting to Rs 4,200 which has been imposed on various shopkeepers during checking.
The inspection team led by Divisional Officer SPCB, Ramban Kuldeep Bhan was accompanied by Assistant Director FPF, A.R Loan and EO MC Ramban Zubaida Parveen besides other officials of respective departments.
During the checking public was also made aware about the health hazards of coloured polythene carry bags which contain various harmful chemicals like colorants, pigments, plasticisers, antioxidants and heavy metals.
Meantime shopkeepers were warned to desist from using this banned material which can attract on the spot penalty up to Rs. 5,000 or imprisonment for one month.
