SRINAGAR: Prof. Saifuddin Soz, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader demanded early revocation of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement released here on Saturday, Soz said, “As for my person is concerned, it is for several years that I have been consistent on the revocation of AFSPA. In fact, I had discussed this matter in all seriousness with the then Home Minister P. Chidambram. He was convinced that this law was not needed at all and that it brought a very bad name to the country. He had then lamented the fact that while he had convinced all his colleagues on the revocation of AFSPA, he (Chidambram) had failed to convince the Ministry of Defence. Today, my position on AFSPA is that this law only promotes and deepens alienation in Kashmir. I would wish that Delhi’s political class realises the fact that this law is repugnant to the very idea of India and it must go, at the earliest.”
